What does Poker Assistant do?
It helps Texas Hold'em players with the maths of a hand. Enter the number of players, your seat, the dealer button, your two hole cards and the community cards as they are dealt. On every street the app shows your current best hand, the chance of improving by the next card and by the river, your win chance against the players still in, the better hands opponents could hold, and a play, check or fold recommendation with plain-English reasons.
How are the odds calculated?
All calculations run on your device. Pre-flop advice uses Bill Chen's formula, adjusted for your position and whether anyone has raised. Post-flop, the app counts your outs and compares your equity with a fair share of the pot. The About screen inside the app explains the method in more detail.
Does the app need an internet connection?
No. Poker Assistant makes no network requests at all, so it works on a plane, in a basement or anywhere else without signal.
Does it store my hands or player names?
Only in memory while the app is open. Player names carry over between hands during a session, but nothing is saved to your device and everything is cleared when you close the app. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Is this gambling?
No. The app involves no real money, no in-app purchases and no play against other people. It is a calculator and learning aid. Note that using any aid during live play may be against the rules of your game or venue, so check before you use it at the table.
The dealer button or seat positions look wrong.
The button moves one seat clockwise each time you start a new hand, and positions (UTG, HJ, CO, BTN, SB, BB) are worked out from the button and the number of players. Tap any seat to see an explanation of that position. If you have marked players as folded, positions are still named from the original seating.
